Week 3 and it feels like I have been here for ever!

Last night I learnt that football can be quite fun when a advised by Mr Monaghan a group of us went to watch FC United at Gigg Lane Bury....it was so noisey.....and only £2!!! Didn't see Mr Monaghan!!!

Anyway my personal Learning Blog for this week is below:

Learning: This week we completed the Market Research for HSBC. This was realy challenging especially working in a group where we had to rely on each other. I learnt that it was very important to have very clear objective for everyone to be responsible for (some may say SMART objectives - I understand now!). We have now started to look at diffrent Marketing startegies that could be used and apply these to the Market Research we did. I am starting to get nervous about the presentation to HSBC as it seems like a real task that might make a difference to their business!

Feedback: The real task has been good much better than doing it about a company that we might start or a product we might make! The lesson spent on SMART objectives was good and using David and Victoria Beckham made it funny.

Target: By the end of next week I will have produced a multimedia presentation to facilitate our group's proposal and research finding to HSBC.

Settled into a routine now and don't have to ask anyone where the classes are anymore. Went to a meeting about Young Enterprise which sounds good I fancy being the Marketing Director.

Anyway my personal learning post for this week is below:

Learning: This week I really understand how to put together a questionnaire and how to use the different types of questions and why. After being a little aprhensive at using another online tool (SurveyMonkey!) I found this quite easy - although will try to do work at home if we do anything like tis again as the computers in IT12 kept oncrashing! I can't believe how much information is on the National Statistics website to use for secondary information.

Feedback: Getting us to do an online questionnaire was great my Mum and Dad could not believe it when they got asked to fill out a questionnaire by clicking a link on an email. I bet some businesses would find this useful! Although the SurveyMonkey was quite easy and your overview was good it would have been good to have a little paper guide as well. I think I need helpin making my targets SMART!!!

Target: I need to give things a go before deciding that I am defeated.

End of the first Week...and survived!!

Quite enjoyed this week met lots of new people but has felt a little bit like information overload. Anyway my personla learning post for business this week can be found below!

Learning: This week we started a topic on Marketing. I have learnt the different elements that go together to make up marketing such as Marketing strategy and Market Research. We got a really good overview of Market Research I understand that Market Research is really important and helps frms make importnt decisions about the future. I understand the difference between primary and secondary research and can give a number of examples of each such as a telephone interview for primary and searching on the internet for secondary (gosh I do learn stuff after all!). When we looked at different types of questions on a questionnaire I did not quite understand which questions you would use for what, it all seemed a little rushed!

Feedback: The pace of lessons are good and bad. We cover loads of stuff and the lessons fly as we are not sat waiting for the next thing to do. However, sometimes I would like a little more time to work through things in my own head before moving on! Hence I would like to go over the different question types I mentioned above. One other thing the mind map that was given out was really good and helped me see on one page how things fitted together.

Target: Take part in more class discussions. I feel this is a good target as I want to say stuff and have good points but am scared to say anything in case I look stupid!

My First Post!!!

This is all new for me. Today was our first lesson with Mr Monaghan and he set out his expectations and told us about some of the things we would be doing. One of them is doing a personal learning log which he says will help us assess our own learning as well as help him facilitate our learning. Anway so below is my first attempt at a PErsonal Learning posting on my blog!

Learning: Today I learnt about the expectations of the teacher and understand them very well they seem very straight forward and are common sense really. I also understand the structure of the course and how it will be assessed. I doo feel a little bit nervous about using technology like this, I thought I had signed up to do Economics and Business not I.T. so I may need some extra help!!

Feedback: All the instructions were straight forward and we were addressed like adults but I think we know that there is a definate line there. There was a lot of information and it would have been good to have a few lessons to go over it all. May be a whole lesson on how to do this personal learning blog would have been helpful.

Personal Target: This one is just a general one for the year and this involves trying my BEST at ALL times!
